Italian politics was born in 1948 when monarchy was waived off by a referendum. Politics is democratic with numerous parties elected into different positions in parliament. Two houses of parliament along with a Council of Ministers control the legislation. The president is appointed for seven year terms and subsequently appoints the Council of ministers and the Prime Minister. Italian Politics consists of several parties with different ideologies. But there are two major parties- the center right and center left.
